My name is Melissa Wilson, and I’m the owner and principle artist at M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio. I love the color pink, I’m obsessed with eyebrows, and even though I’m a hair and makeup artist – I’m still a regular girl who does not have her hair and makeup done every day. In 2011, I opened M.A.W.Beauty with 2 simple goals in mind: to provide brides with an unforgettable luxury beauty experience for one of the biggest days of their lives, and to create a team of the best professionally licensed artists that I could find to provide these services.
I gained my experience in hair artistry by attending Arthur Angelo School of Cosmetology in 2004. During my training, I worked as an assistant in one of Rhode Island’s top ethnic salons and eventually moved my way up to stylist. After relocating to New Jersey at the beginning of 2007, I began working as a makeup artist for Clinique at Macy’s Herald Square in Manhattan, and after moving back to Rhode Island in Spring 2008, I enrolled at CCRI and obtained my Certificate in Marketing. In 2011, I realized that there was no on-location bridal beauty team that could truly cater to all hair textures and skin tones, so I decided to put my passion for hair, makeup and business together to create M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio. Since our inception, my team and I have been blessed with the opportunity to service over 150 brides and their bridal parties, and I have personally had the pleasure of travelling internationally to create the perfect bridal beauty experience for destination weddings. I have also styled makeup for Style Week Northeast, Boston Fashion Week, and I provide beauty services for a number of professional photo shoots.
M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio has been voted “Best of Weddings” by The Knot and also received the “Bride’s Choice Award” from Wedding Wire in 2013, 2014, and 2015. My work has been featured in publications such as WellWed Magazine and Southern New England Weddings Magazine, and can also be seen on several blogs. I have also had the humbling experience of mentoring students from the MET School in Providence who aspire to enter the beauty industry upon graduation. I’m constantly working hard and pushing myself to stay current on what’s new and next in the beauty industry. I love expanding my skill and knowledge through regular classes, workshops, seminars, and trade shows, and by learning from some of the industry’s top names.
I’d be honored to chat with you about your upcoming wedding or event, or about creating a look that is perfect for your every day life. Feel free to contact me. I look forward to bringing out the beauty in you.
