M.A.W.Beauty 5 Year Anniversary

Guys, M.A.W.Beauty hit our 5 year anniversary! How did that even happen?! Where has the time gone? I’ve been so busy with so many things that honestly, the fact that M.A.W.Beauty has now been around for 5 whole years totally escaped me!

Our anniversary was actually at the beginning of November 2016, and although it was a little over two months ago, I couldn’t just NOT acknowledge this heavy milestone in my business. I opened M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio five years ago because I was frustrated with where I was at that point in my life. I had a passion and education for hair and makeup artistry, and I saw a major void in the bridal and beauty industry. In 2011, I opened M.A.W.Beauty with 2 simple goals in mind: to provide brides and clients with an unforgettable luxury beauty experience for one of the biggest days of their lives, or for everyday beauty services, and to create a team of the best professionally licensed artists that I could find to provide these services. Realizing that there was no on-location bridal beauty team that could truly cater to all hair textures and skin tones, I decided to put my passion for hair, makeup and business together to create M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio.

After numerous bridal parties successfully serviced…after winning 10 wedding industry awards…after expanding and relocating our studio location 3 times…

Here we are. Five years later.

These last five years have been truly mind blowing to say the least. They have been filled with many peaks and valleys, and they have been filled with many learning experiences. Over these last five years, I’ve grown in inexplicable ways. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with some really amazing people who are not only gifted artists, but also beautiful, kind people. I’ve been blessed within my first five years of business to begin to curate a high profile clientele – providing services for people like Judith Hill from the Voice, wedding hair and makeup for the wife of a New England Patriots player, male grooming services Governor John Kasich for his presidential rally and notably, Senator Bernie Sanders for an interview on CBS News Face The Nation during the 2016 Presidential Election. I’ve been so incredibly blessed to be able to partner with other hair and makeup artists who see my vision for M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio and think its cool enough to stick with. And I’ve had countless brides who have decided that the beauty aesthetic and service at M.A.W.Beauty was in line with their values, so they’ve trusted in us on one of the most important days of their lives.

For anyone who may be curious, my top three lessons that I’ve learned over the last five years of business are:

  1. Let go and let God.  Seriously, just let it go. I’ve realized that I actually don’t control much of anything about my business. The only thing that I can control is what I put out into the world, and how I react to things. That’s it. Things will happen in your business, and sometimes you just have to roll with it. People will come and go, you may be forced to relocate, bookings can be high or low, competition may *try* to give you a run for your money – but the key is to let it all go, and let God do his work in you and in your business. Everything will fall into place.
  2. Be firm.  In business, people will try to walk all over you, and like the saying goes, if you give an inch people will try to take a yard. Be firm in business. Set policies and stick to them. Don’t feel bad for saying “No”, and don’t feel bad for sticking to the policies you set. YOU are the boss of your business, and you shouldn’t feel guilty for being the boss in your business. It’s important to be flexible, but watch how flexible you are…because you just might bend so much that you snap. So stay firm in all that you do – if you get my drift.
  3. Be grateful!  This is probably the biggest lesson that I’ve learned. Just be grateful. I look around at a lot of the people in my life, and a lot of them are not doing what they love – sure, they may be paid well, but at the end of the day, not every person I know is actually happy with the work that they are doing for the paycheck. I’ve learned to be grateful for everything about my “entrepreneurship experience”. I’m grateful for everyone that I’ve met along the way who has contributed to M.A.W.Beauty in any way. I’m grateful for the experiences that I though would surely take me out of business. I’m grateful for the stress, long days, sleepless nights, tears (yes, ya’ll, I’ve cried real tears over my business), joys, and successes. I’m literally grateful for every single experience that I’ve had in my business. But most of all, I’m just grateful that I’m able to wake up and do something that I actually love. I’m grateful that I’m using a skill that I went to school for, and that I’m not in a totally different field. I’m grateful that I am my own boss. I’m grateful that I can provide opportunity to other artists like myself. I’m grateful that I can create my own opportunities and let my creative energy soar. I’m grateful that I can collaborate with trusted colleagues, as well as new talent. I’m grateful for the past five years, and I’m seriously just so grateful for all of the amazing things that God has in store for M.A.W.Beauty over the next five years.

In recognizing the milestone of M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio’s 5 year anniversary, I simply want to say THANK YOU. I genuinely want to thank every single professional who I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with over the years – each photographer, fashion designer, fashion stylist, dress shop, event planner, florist, caterer, venue, cake designer, DJ, hair stylist, makeup artist…literally, every single professional that I’ve worked with…thank you. To my dedicated team of artists, and to the artists who have worked for me but have continued on your path, thank you for providing the clients who choose to work with M.A.W.Beauty with your professionalism and talent…you are all amazing!!
